Storytelling in the Field

Audio Stories

I make audio stories that illuminate impact and interconnectedness, and leave indelible impressions on audiences.

Method: Individuals lead the storytelling process on their terms, while I work to uncover the emotional core—sensory details, relationships, stakes, and resolution. I’ve refined this method conducting 500+ interviews on StoryCorps Field Production teams and as lead collaborator onVoices of a Flyway, a NatGeo Explorer storytelling project following songbird migration into communities surrounding six of the most endangered ecosystems in the United States.

Why it delivers: Participant-led storytelling isn't just a method; it’s a transformative experience. Storytellers connect more deeply with the narratives of their own lives when they’re invited to set the boundaries and speak to what matters most. The result? Stories that ring with real emotion, connect to deeper truths, and bring the joys, struggles, systems, and solutions in their communities most vividly to life.

This approach has inspired a diverse range of partners to work with my teams. I’ve partnered with radio stations to highlight stories on local airwaves, and produced multi-voice works to celebrate local audiences at live events. See my methods in action in the stories and works below.
